Christian Service Ministries
Christian Service Member
This
group is for anyone who is interested in sharing the Christian Service
concerns of the parish and supporting the many committees, which fall
under Christian Service. Meetings are the fourth Saturday of each month
from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. to plan and respond to the many needs of our
parish and local communities.
Blood Drive Team
Volunteers are needed to prepare bulletin and newspaper
articles, sign up donor appointments after Masses, call previous donors
who have not made an appointment as of the week just preceding the date
of the Drive, provide lunch and snacks for Red Cross personnel and
assist the Red Cross on the day of the Drive. Blood Drives are held at
St. Mary of the Hills three times each year ( April or May, August and
December).
Divorce Recovery and Support for All Ages
A support group for people who have gone through or are
going through divorce. Meets two Saturdays a month.
Funeral Luncheon - Bake
Prepare a dish to be served at a funeral
luncheon.
Funeral Luncheon - Phone Caller
Phone volunteers
for food donations.
Funeral Luncheon - Serve
Help set-up, serve and clean-up at a funeral
luncheon.
Giving Tree
This group starts in September
and ends in early December. Many volunteers are
needed for teams to coordinate gifts between the parish and people
in need in our
community. Help to make
phone calls, set up/place cards on trees, and sort gifts.
Helping Hands
Ministry
Families help plan a meal, do
light housekeeping, etc. for parishioners in need.
John R Road Clean Up
Help to clean
up the roadsides of John R between Auburn and Avon Roads twice a year.
Justice and Peace Committee / MOSES
Social issues are discussed at these
monthly meetings. Past meetings have included movies with discussion and guest speakers about social issues. Service
opportunities include Environmental Group, River of Life, and Catholic
Caucus.
Ministers of Care - Vigil Service
Facilitate the funeral vigil at the funeral home.
Evenings as Needed.
Parish Nursing / Health Fair
Help plan and run the parish health fair in the Fall.
Prayer Chain
Pray for people in need.
Provide A Ride
Volunteers are needed from time to time to offer a ride to/from
church on Sunday for a
fellow parishioner in need.
St. Vincent de Paul
When the need arises, St. Vincent de Paul helps needy
families, holds clothing drives, prepares food baskets for the
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter seasons.

Children's Village
Donate a gift to be used for birthdays of
Children's Village Residents. Once a year.
Crop Walk
Rochester Area Crop Walk
is held once a year in October to help feed the hungry. Walking is done
in downtown Rochester. Families are welcome to walk. Help is also needed
to sell fundraising items after Mass and speak to promote the walk
during Mass announcements.
Crossroads
Pregnancy Center
Promote fundraisers for the Center.
EME to Mercy Bellbrook
Administer Eucharist to patients at Mercy
Bellbrook or the homebound.
Habitat for Humanity
Help with the
building of houses for low income families.
Handicapped Children's
Horseback Riding Program
This is a horseback riding
program for the mentally challenged and physically handicapped children
at the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club. Volunteers are needed on Monday
evenings from 7-8 PM from the months of April through October to help
the children during their hour lesson by walking with the child on the
horse insuring their fun and safety. At least three persons are needed
with each child and horse every Monday evening during these months.
Oakland County Gleaners Food Bank
Parishioners meet here at St. Mary's
to carpool
to the Oakland County Food Bank located on Columbia Street and
Walton Boulevard
in Pontiac to help box and package food for the needy. Families are welcome to help.
We volunteer every other month.Right to Life
Volunteers help to sell carnations on
Mother's Day weekend after all Masses and Christmas cards are sold in November following the weekend Masses.
South Oakland Shelter
Help host the
homeless one week a year at St. Mary’s.
Stephen Ministry
People who
are trained to be a listening presence to someone experiencing
difficulty in life.
St. Michael’s Food Pantry
Food donations of
non-perishable foods are needed on the first weekend of each month to
help support the food pantry. Volunteers are needed before each Mass the
first weekend of each month to greet and thank the people who bring the
food donations, help arrange special collection during time of increased
need, and post/stuff fliers.
